Bread in Common

Bread in Common’s interiors look as good, or better, as they did Day One – the materials have aged beautifully to enhance the ambience of the venue.

We delivered a full fit-out of joinery and cabinetry for Fremantle’s iconic Bread in Common Restaurant & Bakery.

Walking into the space, on the right, hand side, you’ll see see a big black box that extends the length of the kitchen . We crafted that. It is made from compact laminate with a raw finish, sourced from Italy, and appears to be carved from a solid block, with invisible joinery. This is incredibly difficult to execute, which is why Handwerk was the company for the job.

Five years on, commercial venues half as busy as Bread in Common would likely need to refinish their interiors. Bread in Common’s looks as good, or better, as it did Day One, the materials have aged beautifully to enhance the ambience of the venue.

Seating:

Leather bench seating with a built in waiter station was made from American Oak paired with natural leather, and our imported compact laminate.

Bread Counter:

We initially built a bespoke solid oak & imported black laminate bread counter to the architect’s specifications. However, upon usage, it became evident that this was not a suitable solution for piping-hot, fresh-from-the-oven bread. We were asked to solve the problem, and revisited the job in an all-nighter to, to fix, drill, sand, and oil the solution.

Rangehood Cladding:

If you’ve never noticed the Range-hood at Bread in Common, then we’ve done our job right. It took us three weeks to build the under-construction, cladding and finish to hide the vast range-hood and reveal the view into the building’s eye-catching second storey.

Loose Furniture:

On the intimate second second story you’ll see our hand-crafted wooden dining tabes, made from thick ply Spotted Gum.
