A formwork challenge presented a unique opportunity for creativity
Handwerk was enlisted to help build the formwork for the organic shaped, concrete benches that form the backbone of Raine Square’s stylish outdoor seating. The concreters originally engaged on the job were having difficulty due to time restraints, so Built asked Handwerk to step up – and we were happy to build the formwork using our high-tech CNC machinery.
Conveniently, Steff was renovating his house at the time, so had a surplus of recycled timber which was used to build the formwork. It was a complex job that presented quite a logistical challenge – but we were thrilled with the results. If you go to Raine Square you will see the size of these benches, curves and the intricate detail that went into making them.
We also created the wooden outdoor seating for Raine Square’s public open space. The brass and wood outdoor seating was no small feat. After lots of prototypes, and designing to a very tight budget we got it over the line. The steel base, under construction and woodwork was all done in-house.
We are incredibly proud of the combination of wooden/brass and concrete seating. Together they provide a fresh and relaxing outdoor space for Raine Square.
